Our Messiah Concert Is This Sunday

We're looking forward to this season's performance of Handel's Messiah.  It's coming up this Sunday, December 14th at 6:00 p.m.  The program will be held at Davis Middle School.  James Arbizu, who joined the Civic Orchestra as director this last spring, rehearsed the orchestra this fall and will direct the final performance.
Bring your families to be inspired by this wonderful oratorio.  You will hear favorites such as "Hallelujah" and "For Unto Us a Child is Born," as well less-familiar choruses and several solos.  The concert is free and there will be a reception afterwards.

Spring Concert on Thursday This Week

We're excited about the music we're performing this week at our spring concert.  Everyone will recognize Mozart's Symphony No. 40, 1st. Movement.  Carolee Bowen will join with the orchestra to perform an oboe concerto by Alessandro Marcello.  The "Bacchanale" from Samson and Delilah by Saint Saens is exciting and will likely sound familiar.

The Civic Chorus will also perform in the concert.  They have prepared some beautiful choir favorites.

We hope to see you on Thursday, May 22nd, at 7:00 p.m at Evanston Middle School.  The concert is free and refreshments will be served afterwards.

Christmas Gala 2013 was a Great Concert

Our recent Christmas Gala, which we hosted with the Evanston Civic Chorus, was a great success and a neat event here in Evanston.  The Civic Orchestra performed three pieces in the concert:  "Troika" (Sleigh Ride) from Lt. Kiji Suite by Serge Prokofieff, "Sleigh Ride" 3rd Movement from 3 German Dances by W.A. Mozart, and "Christmas Day, Choral Fantasy on Old Carols" by Gustav Holst.  The Combined Choirs joined the orchestra on the last piece to finish out the concert.
"Troika" - Serge Prokofieff
"Sleigh Ride" - W.A Mozart

The Evanston Handbell Choir was a big hit with their two pieces.  Three church groups and several other small instrumental and vocal ensembles also performed.  Refreshments were served afterwards and the audience and performers enjoyed a great social time.
